An open letter to the Wake County Board of Elections regarding the sacred trust of counting every eligible vote and certifying election results, to be delivered on Oct. 2 at 9am.

-

To the members and staff of the [County] Board of Elections,

We, the undersigned clergy and people of faith of [County], write to you not in anger but in hope. We know your work is demanding and often thankless, and we are grateful for it. We come with one simple, shared request: count every eligible vote, and certify the results.

You hold a sacred public trust. The people of this county — citizens of every party and background — have entrusted you with something precious: the promise that their voice will be heard and their vote will count. Our traditions teach us that those who hold power over others are called to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly (Micah 6:8). We believe you can honor that calling by following the law faithfully, counting every eligible ballot, and certifying the outcome the voters decide.

We will be praying for you — for wisdom, for courage, and for the steadiness to keep your oath even under pressure. We stand ready to support you in the vital work of a free and fair election.

With respect and hope,
